For the 2nd day in a row we went to Piazza del Popolo to meet our tour group at 7 AM, but this time we were venturing north for a tour of Tuscany. We were super excited for this because we were under the impression this was a wine tasting tour. We quickly realized this was not the case and instead was a tour of Tuscany with a little bit of tasting.
With a local guide, we discovered the wine towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino and did the following:
- Visit Val d’Orcia in Tuscany on a walking tour around the medieval hill-town of Montepulciano
- Wine tasting and a 3-course lunch at a farm that serves Chianti, including tasting Brunello di Montalcino.
- See Sant’ Antimo Abbey and views over the vineyards of Montalcino.
- Lastly, we hung out in Pienza for some wine tasting.

Next we had lunch and got to sample wines of Montepulciano at a local farm/vineyard.

Followed by a small photo shoot 😀

Then we ventured toSant Antonio Abbey, which we didn’t really need to stop at in my opinion.

Then we went to the town of Pienza for some free time that we turned into wine tasting. From this experience I can tell you that one of my new favorite wines types is the Brunello of Montepulciano. It’s similar in taste to a Merlot and has a velvety smooth finish.

After a somewhat underwhelming day, we knew there was only one thing to do. Find some amazing Italian food. This is exactly what we did. We took our tummy’s to Ristorante Virginae and had an amazing meal of primis and segundis.

Until next time…
